How to prepare for an online medical visit

Keep the appointment details somewhere you can find quickly. Check the date, the time zone and how you are expected to join. A time written for Iran may not be the time shown on your own clock.
If you have not received joining instructions, contact the service arranging the visit before the appointment. Do not assume that a button to book also gives you access to a video call.
Put one question at the top of your notes: what do you most want to understand by the end of this visit?
What should I have beside me?
Prepare a short list of the concerns you want to discuss and the medicines you take. Ask the clinic which existing documents it wants to review and how to send them. A general checklist is not an instruction to order new tests.
The HHS preparation advice offers practical suggestions for organising a remote appointment.
Will the sound and camera work?
Try the microphone, camera and internet connection on the device you will use. Choose a private place where you can hear clearly and be seen. Keep the device steady instead of holding it throughout the call.
These are basic setup steps described in the NHS information on video consultations. They do not establish which video service your appointment uses.
What should I confirm if I am outside Iran?
Tell the booking team which country you will be in during the call. Ask whether the service can be offered there, which language the doctor will use, and whether you need to arrange an interpreter. Do not assume that a consultation includes a prescription usable in your country.
Ask what to do if the connection fails. Keep the agreed contact details with the appointment information.
What happens after the call?
Before finishing, ask who will explain the next step and how to raise a follow-up question. If you are considering travel, ask which decisions still need an in-person assessment.
You can check appointment options or return to doctor research if you have not chosen a doctor.
This page is general preparation information, not a diagnosis or treatment plan. The clinician reviewing your case must decide what care is appropriate.
Questions before you start
Do I need new tests before the call?
This checklist does not request new tests. Ask the clinician which existing documents are relevant and whether anything else is needed.
Can someone help me during the visit?
Ask the clinic beforehand about a companion or interpreter, and tell the clinician who is present.
What if I cannot connect?
Use the contact and fallback arrangement agreed with the clinic. Do not assume that the platform will switch channels automatically.
Does a video visit confirm that I can have surgery?
Do not treat the booking as acceptance for an operation. Ask the clinician which assessments and decisions are still needed.
